Friday saw Team Take Note head over to Hanger Farm Arts Centre in Totton, Southampton, to raise the roof for a very special lady.
Melissa is a 38 year old wife and mother to two beautiful children, who has been fighting cancer since her diagnosis in September 2016. As clinical trials are not available at present, nor treatment available on the NHS for this type of cancer, Melissa’s only hope is to raise funds for this life saving treatment herself.
Melissa’s fantastic family soon set about the fundraising cause, and we here at Take Note felt honoured to be asked to part of this journey!
We arrived straight from the “day job” at 5pm for a swift set up and sound check, before the arrival of guests at 7pm. The room looked beautiful, with a Disney theme running throughout; a favourite with Melissa and her family.
Organisers Sarah and David had kindly arranged for the band to be seated with the guests for the fish and chip supper, generously donated by Goodies Fish Bar Hampshire. Whilst we tucked into our battered sausages, our singer Sarah helped with raffle ticket sales and went about promoting the auction, all of the prizes for which had been kindly donated by friends, family and colleagues.
8.30pm saw the band ready and poised for their first set, with party goers up on the floor from the get-go! The atmosphere in the room was electric, and guests were in fine voice singing along with the band, (and even joining us on stage for a couple of numbers!)
We took back to the stage after the raffle and auction, (both of which raised an incredible amount of money and got the competitive juices flowing amongst a couple of tables!) and took the opportunity to road test our newest song to the repertoire “Sweet Child O Mine” by the Legendary Guns N Roses. Mat surpassed himself with a guitar solo that can only be described as epic, with dancers stopping in their tracks to watch the master at work. Needless to say, we reckon that one is a keeper!
Before we knew it, 11.30pm rolled around at it was time to bid the crowd farewell, with lots of screaming and cheering, along with a countless number of selfies!
Take Note are thrilled to announce the final amount raised was a whopping £3148.95! We are even more delighted to be told that after a visit yesterday , Melissa’s Consultant is “cautiously optimistic” that the treatment is working, and the mass has shrunk. Melissa starts her third round of treatment today.
From all of us here at Take Note HQ, we salute you Melissa! You are such a brave individual and an inspiration to us all. If you would like to donate to Melissa’s cause, please visit her Crowdfunding page.
