Sophia Banger, is a local girl who has never been able to walk. Born with cerebral palsy, she fights a daily battle to achieve all the tasks that are usually taken for granted. Sophia has had many operations to try to help her reach her goal, in order to get there each day she has to get up at 6am before school for gruelling physiotherapy. Her tenacious family has had to bear all the costs of her needs in physiotherapy, equipment or specialist appointments, much of which is not available locally.
Take Note were lucky enough to have the opportunity to help Sophia by playing for a sparkling fundraiser in Chandlers Ford, Southampton. Working to make a real difference to her life, merely by having a good time! Right from the get go, we knew this was going to be a great event, with fairy lights adorning the walls and every guest offered a free glass of bubbly on arrival. The dance floor was packed right from start to end of the evening.
As part of the fundraising efforts, some of the men from the local area had agreed that they would sing with the band for a song, in dresses which were selected by the highest total cash donated by the guests. It doesn’t surprise you to hear that the ladies chose the shortest, skimpiest dresses available! Without rehearsal the whole band played Donna Summer’s ‘Hot Stuff’ to the cheers and screams of the audience.
To close the night, Sophia had asked for us to play Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed A Girl’ and joined us in singing it as a solo backed by the band. It was great seeing her looking up to Sarah who was helping to cue the lyrics, and giving a young lady a really special evening.
“Talking of Take Note… wow! 🎤 🎹🎷🎸You guys were totally awesome! Everyone was up on the dance floor all night long.”
“Thanks so much for a fantastic night in support of Sophia. We can’t wait for Take Note to return to the Hilt in May! x x x”
“Another great gig by a great band.”
The event raised in excess of £3400 for the Sophia, what a great success!
