40th Party at The Rising Sun

It was a welcome return to the The Rising Sun in Colden Common for some of the band, and what a lovely pub it is too! Lots of friendly locals and we received a very warm welcome from all of the staff as well (sorry for making you move all the tables!).

Although it was a somewhat cozy affair, we managed to squeeze in and set up camp for the evening, both playing for the pub and celebrating Sam’s 40th birthday. The guests were in fine vocal form once more, and yet again executed some amazing (and somewhat eye watering!) dance moves that were a thing to behold, (no doubt helped by some of the delights available behind the bar!).

Our first set flew by at what felt like record pace, managing to squeeze in 17 floor fillers before a short break to wet our whistles!

Our return was marked by a rapturous Happy Birthday played by the band, and then it was back to business. After pulling out a melody of “Rock Around the Clock” and “Hound Dog” from our song vault, (as a special request from one of the guests; we hadn’t played it in ages; we had forgotten they are such fun songs to play), we cracked on with the set throwing in some Michael Jackson, Girls Aloud….. even S Club 7 made an appearance!

Another fantastic night, with a top class audience and amazing staff; what more could we ask for? Well a couple of elderflower gins after we packed up to be honest….. Perfect!

Joint 70th and 21st Birthday Celebration

So it was our last event of 2017 and what a great night it was! It was our first visit to the Solent Hotel & Spa in Whitely and what a beautiful setting for a joint party, celebrating Carole’s 70th and Emily’s 21st Birthdays; made even more special by the fact it was guitarist Mat’s Mum and Niece!!!

We were playing in the Carisbrook suite which looked amazing with sophisticated birthday decorations and private cocktail bar! We were all pretty sure this was going to be a great night from the moment we arrived.

The entertainment kicked of with a special acoustic song that Sarah and Mat sang for the birthday girls, followed by a rousing “happy birthday” with everyone showing their voices talents early on, setting the bar high for the rest of the evening!

Then it was business as usual, kicking off the first set with a bit of Robbie, followed by a dance floor filling selection of hits from the last few decades… judging by the piles of handbags on the dance floor, we think we got the song selection right! The second set started in the same way that we finished the first, with our faithful dancers back and ready for more. Now, it’s not unusual to get requests from guests (convinced they are on par with an X Factor finalist) to come and sing with the band, especially after plenty of Dutch courage, but tonight it was a request we could not turn down.
The beautiful Lilly who is only 5 years old asked Sarah if she could sing a song with her, and they both agreed Shake It Off by Taylor Swift was the perfect choice! Lilly was absolutely amazing and sang the whole song with the band in full swing…. she quite frankly stole the show. Definitely a star in the making there…..check out the video below…. it’s the cutest thing ever!

It was a fantastic event, with great people and an amazing way to close our 2017 calendar.

“A great big thankyou to Take Note! It was a fantastic evening and your brilliant band and music made it even enjoyable. Roll on next occasion xx” – Carole

2017 has been the best yet for us. We have played in pubs, halls, a brand new luxury hotel and even a teepee! We have entertained at weddings, anniversaries, vowel renewals, birthdays and beer festivals. We would like to thank friends old and new for your support and anyone who has put their faith in us to be a part of their special occasion. We all can’t wait to see what 2018 brings.

Happy New Year!

Julie’s 50th Birthday Party

On Friday we were M27 bound and heading over to Sarisbury Green for Julie’s 50th birthday party. We arrived to a hall decked out with bunting, of which the fabric had been donated by the guests; each triangle had a special connection to Julie and was definitely a conversation starter… especially the 5 pairs of boxer shorts hanging amongst the triangles!

Whilst we set up on stage, Julie and her family put the final touches to the hall and then disappeared to get ready. Julie had been treated by one of her close friends to a tailor made dress, and she looked simply stunning!

We were set, sound checked and ready to go when guests began to arrive, with some carefully selected music playing in the room to create an atmosphere to get the party off to a flying start. The band were treated to some delicious food while we waited to start, all provided by Julie’s best friend and family… a sure fire way to score brownie points with us; via our stomachs!

We hit the stage at 9 for our first set, a highlight for us was singing Our House by Madness with the whole of Fareham Musical Society as our backing singers… thanks for the support! Just before we headed off stage for a short break we handed the microphone to Julie’s husband Richard who gave a beautiful speech before leading everybody in singing Happy Birthday whilst Julie cut her rainbow unicorn birthday cake!

We came back on stage playing Julie’s favourite song – Proud Mary – which filled the dance floor! We kept with the disco vibe with numbers such as Celebration and Car Wash, before the arrival of some very special guests… Julie’s son and cast mates who had been busy performing in Petersfield before heading over to join the party! Some of the guys joined us on stage to form an 11 piece band for the final few numbers. Playing hits such as September, Walking on Sunshine and Crazy in Love with an extra trumpet, trombone and saxophone created what really was a phenomenal sound, really making Julie’s night one to remember!

It was such a privilege to be apart of this celebration and we hope Julie enjoyed the night as much as we did! More fabulous photos (courtesy of Matthew) from this event are over on our Instagram.

Loved the band and I have heard a fair few after 20 years of live music in the pub! Great set choice – varied over the years – always a winner to have brass it sets you aside and the bonus of a male and female singer is more genres being covered! Win win – thank you for a great nights entertainment!” – Hayley (Guest)

“Big thank you , such a great band and very lovely people” – Lynne (Guest)

“What a fantastic night. Great band! Thank you Julie Wharton and Happy Birthday.” – Graeme (Guest)

We all had an amazing night too, so lovely to catch up with everyone. The band, the food, lovely host, great company, one of the best parties ever.” – Tracy (Guest)

Billy’s 21st Birthday!

Team Take Note…… out on the road again….. and this time to an actual Island!!! Arriving at the venue to set up when the doors were open, we were greeted by an army of friends and relatives setting up the room ready to celebrate Billy’s 21st birthday. It was quite the transformation in about 90 minutes (Go team Billy!!!).

We galloped through the first set with the usual Take Note energy and fun. Craig kept us on our toes by adding the odd extra chorus in here and there, much to the delight of the band and the army of dance floor revellers… setting us up for a blistering hot and energetic 2nd set.

Kicking off with “Celebration” Billy was summonsed to the dance floor for a rousing version of “Happy Birthday” (he wasn’t embarrassed at all!!), and with the dance floor packed we launched into a funky dance and singalong with Uptown Funk, Moves Like Jagger and Blame it on the Boogie. The crowd had the opportunity to have a sing with us on Mustang Sally which produced some interesting, and in one case epic result. A+ for effort; let’s leave it there. All of Billy’s family and friends redeemed themselves when to be fair when they raised the roof with Mr Brightside, Sex on Fire and Livin’ on a Prayer which ended a brilliant night of fun, laughter and dancing worthy of any You’ve Been Framed show reel.

Happy Birthday Billy. We all hope you had a top night and thank you to everyone for making us feel so welcome.

We must also say a huge THANK YOU to the lovely Gemma who joined us as a special guest in the brass section, and blew us all away (see what we did there!). You were brilliant!!

We are off on our short summer break now…… but shall return soon…. in a teepee no less (no joke)!!! Thanks to everyone so far this year who has booked us, danced with us, sang with us and to all of you who have put your trust and faith in Take Note to make some amazing memories. We are truly honoured and blessed.
